There’s nothing quite like waking up to the smell of a warm breakfast. One of my family’s favorite breakfast dishes is my homemade cinnamon rolls. They’re perfect for a lazy weekend morning and always bring a smile to my kids’ faces.
One memory that always comes to mind when I make these cinnamon rolls is the time my daughter Emily helped me make them for the first time. She was only 8 years old at the time and was so excited to help with the baking. We spent the morning mixing the dough, rolling it out, and spreading the cinnamon filling. When they came out of the oven, Emily proudly declared that they were the best cinnamon rolls she had ever tasted.
If you’re looking to make a special breakfast for your family, these cinnamon rolls are sure to impress. The addition of cloves to the filling gives them an extra depth of flavor that is hard to resist. Here are some tips for making them:
Ingredients:
– 1/2 cup warm milk
– 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
– 1/4 cup granulated sugar
– 1 egg
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 tsp salt
– 1/2 tsp cloves
For the filling:
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 1 cup brown sugar
– 2 tbsp cinnamon
– 1/2 tsp cloves
For the frosting:
– 4 oz cream cheese, softened
– 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
2. Add in the egg and melted butter and whisk until combined.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and cloves.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
5. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
6. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
7. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
8. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
9. In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cloves.
10. Spread the filling over the rolled-out dough.
11. Roll up the dough tightly into a log shape and cut into slices about 1 inch thick.
12. Place the slices in a greased baking dish and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
13. While the cinnamon rolls are baking, prepare the frosting by beating together the cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until smooth.
14. Once the cinnamon rolls are done baking, let them cool for a few minutes before spreading the frosting on top.
These cinnamon rolls are best served warm and gooey right out of the oven. They’re perfect for a cozy weekend breakfast or brunch with family and friends. And who knows, maybe one day your child will help you make them too!
